Newly drafted San Diego Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o can’t live down the jokes over his fake girlfriend now that he’s a professional athlete.
San Diego Union-Tribune editorial cartoonist Steve Breen just released this new cartoon as a welcoming gift to the former Notre Dame star and Heisman Trophy finalist.
Last January, Deadspin broke the news that Te’o never really had a girlfriend and that her death was a hoax. Te’o's compelling story turned out to be the legend of the 2012 college football season.
Te’o will wear No. 50 for the Chargers. He’s excited about joining the team.
“I think it’ll all start to kick in when I see my jersey and my helmet in my locker,” Te’o said. “To see that bolt on that helmet, I think that’s when it’ll finally hit me that I’m playing for the San Diego Chargers (and) I’m fulfilling a lifelong dream.”
Now if only that recurring nightmare over his fake girlfriend would just go away.
