U.S. Olympic gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas received a makeover after she was criticized for her hairstyle during the London Games.
Celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson gave her the new do.
Douglas tweeted the photos, saying: “A special thank you to my Gold Medal Celebrity Hair Stylist.”
Gibson tweeted, “It’s 3 a.m., just left Ted Gibson NYC. Love you Gabrielle Douglas. What an amazing young lady you are.”
Douglas won gold medals in the individual and team all-around competitions. The 16-year-old became the first African-American woman to win the Olympic all-around title. She also became the fourth American woman to do so, following in the footsteps of Mary Lou Retton in 1984, Carly Patterson in 2004 and Nastia Liukin in 2008.
Critics complained about her hair despite those amazing accomplishments.
I couldn’t believe it and still can’t,” said Gibson. He’s styled Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Kate Gosselin and Ashley Greene’s hair. “You have this young girl doing amazing things, and the conversation becomes about her hair? It was ridiculous and shameful.”
So now, everyone can focus on what’s truly important — that Gabby Douglas is an Olympic champion who has made America proud.
